RWTS-Quality Sales Negotiation Training!

Negotiation

Remember when you were a kid, long before you had ever heard of sales negotiation training, and you didn't want to eat something your mother had fixed?

There it sat on your plate, the broccoli or the brussel sprouts or whatever, while you sat, unhappy, staring at it, eating nothing. You couldn't leave the table until you had "cleaned your plate", but you couldn't bring yourself to do it.

Your mother would tell you, okay, just four more bites and you're done. And you'd answer, how about just three?

That's negotiating.

John Daniels, in his ebook "The Right Way To Sell, A Guide To Professional Salesmanship", says that...

" Negotiation is the fine art of compromise; you give up something to gain something."

Mr. Daniels goes on to say more about the "fine art of compromise":

"Successful negotiating relies on the competence with which the previous steps have been conducted.

Just like all the other steps to the sale, it is virtually impossible to negotiate from a position of strength if you have not done all the preliminary steps correctly.

Once again, the reason for this is simple; if the customer does not have a value in his/her mind for your product that is equal to or greater than the price you're asking, your negotiation will fail."

Many sales professionals in fields where the products they sell have a fixed price never have the opportunity to practice this fine art.

But in industries such as retail electronics, real estate, automobiles, furniture, time-share properties and other "big ticket" items, price and terms negotiation are a significant part of a salesperson's job description.

Learning to negotiate effectively is imperative for the sales professional who wants to excel in these, and other similar, fields.

By the way, here's what Mr. Daniels says is the answer to the second question (above):

"There are two rules, in my mind, that govern all areas of customer relations.

Rule #1, the customer is always right.

Rule #2, when the customer is wrong (and they often are),

refer back to Rule #1."

Page Two goes on to tell you more about this very important aspect of the sales profession.
