...or to use the proper term, "qualifying".
And other than closing the sale, it's probably the most important of all the steps in the sales process.
So what exactly is qualifying...
...or finding out?
On page fifteen of his ebook, "The Right Way To Sell, A Guide To Porfessional Salesmanship", the author, John Daniels, gives us a very simple definition.
"Qualifying is asking questions."
Well, that was easy, wasn't it?
Just ask your prospects a lot of questions and...
...you'll make lots of sales, right?
Sorry, but it's not quite that simple.
Yet, if you were to attend lots of different sales seminars by the big-name sales trainers, it's a subject that is often neglected.
Why?
Because, we suppose, like most of the steps to the sale...
...it isn't as "flashy" or "impressive" as the fancy closing techniques...
...like the "Bathroom Door Close"...
...or the "Early Tuesday Morning Close".
Qualifying is fundamentals...
...it's basics.
It's learning to swing the bat on a level plane, it's crawling before walking...
...and walking before running.
Here's Mr. Daniels again, on page twenty-one of his book:
"...good qualifying is nothing more than obtaining information that will enable you to make a more effective sales presentation."
We encourage all our "students" to attend motivational and sales seminars.
They provide a great deal of useful information and allow the attendee to interact with other salespersons...
...and gain valuable insights, support and new ideas for selling.
But learn the fundamentals first.
You can't run until you walk, can you?
